3/14/2008: Sociology and social work have long been strong components of the Mary Baldwin curriculum. In fall 2007, 151 current students had declared sociology or social work as a major or minor. A recent gift from a generous alumna and Board of Trustees member who wishes to remain anonymous will help the department begin a bona fide major in social work and to become a nationally accredited program. 3/19/09: A self-described "leftover from the '60s," Mary Baldwin College professor John Wells said teaching sociology classes on the decade is the perfect job for him.
"With all the social issues, the Vietnam War and everything that was happening, the '60s were really a pivotal part of American history," he said. "It was hard to just be a spectator back then."
